The second chakra is referred to as the belly or sacral chakra.  It is located two inches below the navel and is rooted into the spine.  This center holds the basic needs for sexuality, creativity, intuition, self-worth, friendliness, and emotions.  It governs one’s sense of self-worth, confidence in one’s creativity and the ability to relate to others in an open and friendly way.  It is governed by how emotions were either repressed or expressed in the family dynamic during childhood.  When in balance, this chakra allows emotions to flow freely, and allows one to feel and reach out to others (sexually or not).

When this chakra is blocked, a person may feel emotionally explosive, manipulative, obsessed with thoughts of sex or complete lack of energy.  Physical problems can include constipation, stiff lower back, weak kidneys, and muscle spasms. Belly body parts include the sexual organs (women), kidneys, bladder, and large intestine.

The word chakra comes from the Sanskrit word that means wheel.  There are seven major chakras beginning at the base of the spine and finishing at  the top of the head.  Although they are fixed in the central spine, they are located on both the front and back of the body and work through it.

Each chakra vibrates and rotates at different speeds:  the root or first chakra moves at the slowest speed and the crown, or the seventh chakra moves the fastest.

Each chakra is stimulated by its complementary color and a variety of gemstones used for specific healing power.

The size and brightness of the wheels vary with individual development, physical condition, energy levels, stress or disease.  

When the chakras are not balanced, or if the energy is blocked, you may feel tired, out of sorts, or depressed and your basic life force will be slowed down.  Any fear, doubt or negativity that may preoccupy you can affect bodily functions and lead to disease.

Actively creating a constant balance among the chakras is vital to your physical, mental health and well-being.
