The human body has what is known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a regulatory network of trillions of receptor cells.

Research into ECS’s roles in the human body is relatively recent, but it is considered critical for just about every bodily function. For example, the ECS has roles in forming memories, emotional processing, regulating sleep, and maintaining our core body temperature. It is also active in immune and inflammatory responses and pain regulation.

Stimulating the ECS receptors requires molecules called endocannabinoids, which bear a remarkable similarity to the cannabinoid molecules in CBD.  It is thought that many of the CBD benefits people experience could be due to the CBD cannabinoids’ ability to interact with the ECS receptors the same way the naturally occurring ones do.
